How to Run a Manual Backup in WHM?
Sometimes you need to run a backup immediately — for example, before making major changes to a client's website or before account termination. WHM allows you to trigger backups manually at any time.
Run a Manual Backup
- Login to WHM.
- Go to Backup → Backup Accounts.
- Under Select Accounts to Backup:
- Click All Accounts to back up every account.
- Or select specific accounts by checking boxes next to individual usernames.
- Click Generate Backup.
- WHM starts the backup process. A progress log appears on screen.
Backup files are saved to the directory configured in Backup Configuration. Depending on account sizes, the backup may take a few minutes to hours.
Restore a Backup
- Go to WHM → Backup → Restore a Full Backup/cpmove File.
- Enter the path to the backup file on the server.
- Select restore options (overwrite existing, create new, etc.).
- Click Restore.
Backup Before Critical Changes
Always run a manual backup before:
- Major WordPress updates or plugin installations
- PHP version changes
- Migrating a site to a new domain
- Terminating an account
- Performing bulk database operations
