How to Reset a cPanel Account's Disk Quota in WHM?
Sometimes a cPanel account may show incorrect disk usage — either showing full when it is not, or showing 0 when files clearly exist. This is a quota sync issue that can be fixed by resetting the disk quota in WHM.
Signs of a Disk Quota Issue
- Client reports disk full error but File Manager shows plenty of free space.
- WHM List Accounts shows 0 MB used even though the client has a live website.
- New files cannot be created or emails fail with "disk quota exceeded" despite available space.
- cPanel disk usage bar shows full but actual files don't add up to the limit.
Fix Disk Quota via WHM – Quota Resync
- Login to WHM.
- Use the search bar and type Quota.
- Click Manage Quota or Force Quota Recalculation.
- Select the affected account username.
- Click Recalculate or Fix Quota.
- Wait for the process to complete — it may take a few minutes.
- Go back to List Accounts and verify the disk usage now shows correctly.
Temporarily Increase Quota as a Fix
If the quota resync does not work immediately, you can temporarily give the client more space:
- Go to WHM → Account Functions → Modify an Account.
- Find the account and click Modify.
- Increase the Disk Space Quota (MB) by 500–1000 MB temporarily.
- Click Save.
- This usually resolves the immediate issue while the quota recalculation runs in the background.
Note: Quota sync issues often occur after large file operations like restoring a backup or running Softaculous imports. Running a quota recalculation after such operations is good practice.
