How to Create an FTP Account in cPanel

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to transfer files between your computer and your web hosting account. Creating an FTP account in cPanel gives you secure access to your hosting files using FTP clients like FileZilla.

Steps to Create an FTP Account

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Under the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
  3. Fill in the following fields:
    • Log In: Enter a username for the FTP account.
    • Domain: Select your domain from the dropdown.
    • Password: Set a strong password for the FTP account.
    • Directory: Specify which folder this FTP user can access. For full access, leave it as public_html.
    • Quota: Set a disk quota or leave as Unlimited.
  4. Click Create FTP Account.

Connecting via FileZilla

Once the account is created, use the following settings in FileZilla or any FTP client:

  • Host: ftp.yourdomain.com
  • Username: yourftpuser@yourdomain.com
  • Password: Your FTP password
  • Port: 21 (FTP) or 22 (SFTP)

Security Tip: Use SFTP (port 22) instead of FTP (port 21) for encrypted file transfers. SKPHost supports SFTP on all hosting plans.

Managing FTP Accounts

To view, modify, or delete FTP accounts, go to cPanel → FTP Accounts. You can change passwords, update quotas, or remove FTP users from this page.
