How to Use the Backup Wizard in cPanel
The Backup Wizard in cPanel provides a simplified, step-by-step interface for creating and restoring backups. It is ideal for beginners who want a guided experience instead of using the more advanced Backup tool.
Accessing the Backup Wizard
- Login to cPanel.
- Under the Files section, click Backup Wizard.
- You will see two options: Back Up and Restore.
Creating a Backup Using the Wizard
- Click Back Up.
- Choose what to back up:
- Full Backup – Backs up everything (files, databases, emails, settings).
- Home Directory – Only your website files.
- MySQL Databases – Only database data.
- Email Forwarders – Email forwarding configurations.
- Email Filters – Your spam filter rules.
- Follow the prompts to complete the backup.
- Download the backup file to your local computer.
Restoring a Backup Using the Wizard
- Click Restore from the Backup Wizard main screen.
- Choose what to restore:
- Home Directory
- MySQL Database
- Email Forwarders
- Email Filters
- Click Choose File and select the backup file from your computer.
- Click Upload to start the restore process.
Important: Restoring a backup will overwrite existing data. Make sure you have a current backup before restoring an older one. SKPHost is not responsible for data loss from incorrect restore operations.
Backup Best Practices
- Back up your website at least once a week.
- Always download a copy of your backup to your local computer or cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).
- Test your backup by doing a restore on a staging/test environment.
