How to Use the Backup Wizard in cPanel

The Backup Wizard in cPanel provides a simplified, step-by-step interface for creating and restoring backups. It is ideal for beginners who want a guided experience instead of using the more advanced Backup tool.

Accessing the Backup Wizard

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Under the Files section, click Backup Wizard.
  3. You will see two options: Back Up and Restore.

Creating a Backup Using the Wizard

  1. Click Back Up.
  2. Choose what to back up:
    • Full Backup – Backs up everything (files, databases, emails, settings).
    • Home Directory – Only your website files.
    • MySQL Databases – Only database data.
    • Email Forwarders – Email forwarding configurations.
    • Email Filters – Your spam filter rules.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the backup.
  4. Download the backup file to your local computer.

Restoring a Backup Using the Wizard

  1. Click Restore from the Backup Wizard main screen.
  2. Choose what to restore:
    • Home Directory
    • MySQL Database
    • Email Forwarders
    • Email Filters
  3. Click Choose File and select the backup file from your computer.
  4. Click Upload to start the restore process.

Important: Restoring a backup will overwrite existing data. Make sure you have a current backup before restoring an older one. SKPHost is not responsible for data loss from incorrect restore operations.

Backup Best Practices

  • Back up your website at least once a week.
  • Always download a copy of your backup to your local computer or cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).
  • Test your backup by doing a restore on a staging/test environment.
  • Enable Softaculous Automated Backups for WordPress sites for daily automatic backups.
