How to Add MX Records in cPanel?

MX Records (Mail Exchange Records) tell the internet which mail server handles email for your domain. If you want to use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, or any external email provider, you will need to update your MX records.

How to View/Edit MX Records

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Under Email, click MX Entry.
  3. Select the domain you want to configure.
  4. Set the Email Routing option:
    • Automatically Detect Configuration: cPanel decides routing automatically.
    • Local Mail Exchanger: Deliver all email locally on this server.
    • Remote Mail Exchanger: Use for Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, etc.
    • Backup Mail Exchanger: Use as a backup MX server.
  5. To add a new MX record, fill in Priority and Destination and click Add New Record.

Google Workspace MX Records

Priority 1 → ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
Priority 5 → ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
Priority 5 → ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
Priority 10 → ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
Priority 10 → ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

Note: When using an external email provider, also set the Email Routing to Remote Mail Exchanger so cPanel stops trying to deliver mail locally.
