How to Use Track DNS in cPanel?

The Track DNS tool in cPanel allows you to perform DNS lookups and trace the DNS path for any domain. It is useful for verifying that your DNS records are correctly configured and propagated worldwide.

How to Use Track DNS

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Under Domains, click Track DNS.
  3. Enter the domain name you want to check.
  4. Click Look Up.
  5. The tool will display:
    • A traceroute from the server to the domain.
    • DNS lookup results showing the IP the domain resolves to.

What the Results Mean

  • Traceroute: Shows each network hop between the server and the domain. High latency on a hop may indicate network congestion.
  • DNS Lookup: Shows the A record (IP address) the domain resolves to. If this does not match your server IP, DNS has not propagated yet.

Online DNS Checking Tools

For checking DNS propagation globally, you can also use these free tools:

  • whatsmydns.net – Check DNS propagation from multiple locations worldwide.
  • mxtoolbox.com – Check MX, SPF, DKIM, and other DNS records.
  • dnschecker.org – Verify DNS records from different countries.

Note: DNS changes typically propagate within 1–4 hours but can take up to 48 hours depending on the TTL value of the changed record.
