How to Change an Account's Password in WHM?
If a client forgets their cPanel password or you need to reset it for security reasons, WHM lets you change it instantly without knowing the current password.
Steps to Change a Client's Password
- Login to WHM.
- Go to Account Functions → Password Modification.
- Select the client's username from the dropdown list.
- Type the new password in the Password field. Use the Password Generator for a strong random password.
- Confirm the password in the second field.
- Check the box Send notification to the email address listed with this account if you want to email the new password to the client automatically.
- Click Change Password.
Password is changed immediately. The client can now login to cPanel with the new password.
Password Strength Requirements
- Minimum 8 characters (12+ recommended)
- Mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols
- Avoid dictionary words or personally identifiable information
- Do not reuse previous passwords
Password Generator in WHM
Click the Password Generator button next to the password field. WHM generates a random, highly secure password automatically. Copy it before saving — you will need to share it with the client.
Security Note: Never send passwords in plain text email. Use a secure password-sharing tool or share over phone/WhatsApp and ask the client to change it immediately after login.
