How to Generate / Download a Full Backup in cPanel

Taking regular backups of your website is essential to protect your data. SKPHost allows you to generate and download a full backup of your hosting account directly from cPanel — including all files, databases, email accounts, and settings.

What Does a Full Backup Include?

  • All website files in public_html
  • All MySQL databases
  • Email accounts and forwarders
  • DNS zone files
  • cPanel account settings

Steps to Generate a Full Backup

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Under the Files section, click Backup.
  3. Under Full Backup, click Download a Full Account Backup.
  4. Select the Backup Destination:
    • Home Directory – Save the backup on the server (recommended for downloading later).
    • Remote FTP Server – Send directly to an external FTP server.
  5. Enter your email address to receive a notification when the backup is ready.
  6. Click Generate Backup.

Downloading Your Backup

Once the backup is generated:

  1. Go back to cPanel → Backup.
  2. Under Backups Available for Download, you will see the backup file listed.
  3. Click the filename to download it to your computer.

Important: Full backups can be large and may take time to generate depending on your account size. SKPHost recommends scheduling regular backups at least once a week.

Partial Backups

If you only need to back up specific parts of your account, use the Partial Backup section on the same page to download just:

  • Home Directory files only
  • MySQL Databases only
  • Email Forwarders
  • Email Filters
