How to Configure Backup Settings in WHM?


WHM's Backup Configuration tool lets you schedule automatic backups for all client accounts. Regular backups protect your clients' data in case of accidental deletion, corruption, or other disasters.

Steps to Configure Backups

  1. Login to WHM.
  2. Go to Backup → Backup Configuration.
  3. Set Backup Status: On.
  4. Choose Backup Type:
    • Compressed: Saves disk space but takes longer.
    • Uncompressed: Faster but uses more space.
    • Incremental: Only backs up files that changed — most efficient.
  5. Set the Backup Directory: The path on the server where backups are stored (e.g., /backup).
  6. Under Scheduling and Retention:
    • Daily Backups: Enable and set how many days to retain (e.g., 7).
    • Weekly Backups: Enable and select which day of the week.
    • Monthly Backups: Enable and select which day of the month.
  7. Under Accounts: Choose Back up all accounts.
  8. Click Save Configuration.

Add a Remote Backup Destination

  1. Scroll to Additional Destinations at the bottom of Backup Configuration.
  2. Click Create new destination.
  3. Choose type: FTP, SFTP, or Amazon S3.
  4. Enter the remote server credentials.
  5. Click Save and Validate Destination to test the connection.
