How to Create a Database in cPanel

A database is required for most web applications including WordPress, Joomla, Magento, and more. cPanel makes it easy to create and manage MySQL databases through the MySQL Databases tool.

Step 1: Create a New Database

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Under the Databases section, click MySQL Databases.
  3. Under Create New Database, type a name for your database.
  4. Click Create Database.

Your database will be created with the format: cpanelusername_databasename

Step 2: Create a Database User

  1. Scroll down to MySQL Users.
  2. Enter a username and a strong password.
  3. Click Create User.

Step 3: Add User to Database

  1. Scroll down to Add User to Database.
  2. Select the user and the database from the dropdowns.
  3. Click Add.
  4. On the privileges page, check ALL PRIVILEGES and click Make Changes.

Tip: When installing WordPress or another CMS, use the exact database name, username, and password you created here in the installation form.
