How to Change the Contact Email for a Client Account in WHM?

The contact email on a cPanel account receives important notifications — disk quota warnings, suspension notices, and system alerts. Keeping it up to date ensures clients receive important communications.

Update Contact Email via Modify Account

  1. Login to WHM.
  2. Go to Account Functions → Modify an Account.
  3. Select the client's username from the dropdown.
  4. Click Modify.
  5. Find the Contact Email field.
  6. Update with the new email address.
  7. Click Save.

The contact email is updated immediately. Future system notifications will go to the new address.

When Clients Update Their Own Email

Clients can also update their own contact email from inside cPanel:

  1. Client logs into cPanel.
  2. Clicks their username in the top right corner.
  3. Goes to Contact Information.
  4. Updates the email address and saves.

Why This Matters

  • Disk quota warning emails go to this address.
  • Password reset emails from cPanel use this address.
  • Bandwidth limit alerts are sent here.
  • System-generated notifications about the account use this address.

Best Practice: When onboarding a new client, always verify their contact email is correct. A wrong email means they miss important hosting alerts — and blame you when things go wrong.
